Alabama Women Protesting Roy Moore Rally

70-year-old, Roy Moore isn’t anyone’s ideal politician. The Alabama Republican Senate candidate has been accused by multiple women of assault and harassment. Most of the accusations stem back to when the victims were merely teenagers. Roy Moore has of course denied all of these accusations and has even condemned them by called them malicious and false. To make matters worse for the victims, President Trump went on to endorse Moore.

The woman of Alabama aren’t going to let Moore getaway with it. They don’t care who is endorsing him. Protester, Ginger Poynter, told local news outlet News 5 WKRG, “We want the world to know that the women are telling the truth.” This is no regular protest as the women have taken to the streets dressed as handmaids. The look is very similar to the one described in Margaret Atwood’s 1985 novel, The Handmaid’s Tale.

The protest took place in Fairhope, Alabama right outside of a Moore rally. In addition to the handmaid costume, many of the protesters wore black tape across their mouths that read the names of his victims. The signs that were help by the protesters read, “We want a senator, not a predator” and “Pray to end child molestation.”

The handmaid outfits, made mostly of red robes and white bonnets have become quite popular throughout the past year. This protest wear has been popping up everywhere from the United States to Ireland. The have shown up at political protest, reproductive rights protest and protest cover healthcare. The Handmaid’s Tale has become an international symbol for women’s oppression.

Given the protest and the negative accusations pointed against him, we can’t help but wonder what the future has in store for someone like Roy Moore. Will justice prevail or will we have another crooked politician in control. We just have to wait and see.
